The URGE to get another nutrition training is INTENSE, right?
You aren’t getting clients, you don’t have confidence…you are feeling defeated in your business.
It must be that…
- You need to get more education
- You need to get more credibility
- You need to get more letters behind your name
For the love of GORD…please stop.
What if I told you that you have EVERYTHING you need to be successful in your business?
What if I told you that getting more continuing education in health will not solve your lack of clients, confidence or money in your bank account?
What if I told you this is the wrong decision to make?
In today’s episode of the Wealthy Coach Podcast, I’ll be discussing:
- The reason why investing in more health courses is not the solution
- Why feeling this way is not necessarily a bad thing
- The quickest way to get confidence in your biz and start moving things forward

Think You Need Another Health Certification? Listen To This First!
A lot of people out there talking about building a 6-figure or a 7-figure business, and even building an 8-figure business. If you truly want to build an empire, then that’s amazing, but there is nothing wrong with wanting to make $80,000 a year. Maybe you don’t even want to hit six figures, no big deal. There is nothing wrong with that. On this show, we focus on building the business that you want. This episode is for the coach who is paralyzed by a lack of confidence and is feeling the need to invest in yet another health or wellness course or certification with the goal of gaining that confidence that they feel like they are missing. Does that sound like you? If it does, this episode is for you. I want to dive into this because this is a common thing.
It’s something that I experienced when I first started my business. Most coaches will experience this at some point, especially if you’re working in health and wellness, you have likely done a single certification and maybe this business-building thing is a little bit harder than you thought it would be. You thought it would be a lot easier. You’re struggling to get clients and to bring in consistent money. You believe the solution is that you need more training. It’s because you don’t know enough. You don’t feel equipped to help these people. You don’t feel confident talking about what you do and what you offer. You feel that investing in another course in health and wellness is going to be the way out of that. You think you can buy your way out of this lack of confidence, but I’m here to tell you that that is BS. It’s not true.
That’s what we’re going to dive in. We’re going to dive into where that’s coming from. I believe that is coming from three different things: Imposter Syndrome, Fear of Putting Yourself Out There and Lack of Confidence. We know there’s a lack of confidence, but we’re going to dive into that one last. I want to start with imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is this feeling that you are an imposter or you’re a fraud or that you’re ripping people off because you don’t truly believe in yourself. You are thinking, “Who am I to offer this to people out there? I’m not an expert, I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m an imposter. I’m a fraud. I’m cheating people out of their money and I shouldn’t be doing this.”
Having imposter syndrome might look like this urge to invest in another health and wellness course in order to feel like less of an imposter, to feel like we are more certified, more qualified, more able to help the people that we say we can help. It might look like comparing yourself to someone else out there online who is an expert and being like, “She knows what she’s talking about. She is an expert. That is not me. I know less, therefore, I’m not good enough. Therefore, I have no place being here and talking about this topic.” It feels like that fraud, that imposter. That’s what it looks like. That is what you’re experiencing when you have those thoughts. What does having imposter syndrome mean about you? You might be surprised, but it means that you are right on track and you are exactly where you should be. That might sound weird. You’re like, “What’s going on here? What do you mean I’m exactly where I am? This feels like crap. I don’t want to feel this way.”
I want you to think about this. Statistics show that there’s 30% of people who never experienced imposter syndrome. Why is that? You’re not going to experience imposter syndrome if you never step outside your comfort zone. If you were living life in your bubble, in your box, in your comfort zone, never going outside of it, never seeking outside of it, you’re never going to feel like an imposter because you’re always inside your comfort zone. The reason you’re feeling imposter syndrome is because you are attempting to build a business, which is hard. It’s not easy and not comfortable. Nobody ever built a business inside their comfort zone. It’s uncomfortable. If you experienced imposter syndrome, what it means is that you are outside your comfort zone and that is important.
That is a good thing because if you are trying to play it safe and do this all inside your happy little bubble, you are not going to succeed. You’re not going to get where you want to go. You are not going to build that business that you truly want. It’s not going to happen. That’s what I mean when I say that you are exactly where you should be because you’re outside your comfort zone and it’s going to be uncomfortable. It’s going to bring up these feelings of being an imposter. It’s normal. We all go through it. I went through it too. I still go through it. I still have those feelings like, “Who am I to be doing this?”
You are on track and understand that the people at the highest levels of society are experiencing this, the most successful people in the world are experiencing this because they are outside their comfort zone. Instead of looking at this as a bad thing and feeling uncomfortable with all this discomfort, try to sit in it, be okay with it, and realize that this is normal and it’s a good thing. It means that I’m pushing myself and I’m stepping outside my comfort zone which is what is necessary for me to achieve my goals with my business. Imposter syndrome, it’s normal. It’s a good thing and it’s okay if that is what you’re experiencing now.
Let’s talk about the fear of putting yourself out there. It’s scary. Outside our comfort zone, putting ourselves out there, talking to a bunch of strangers on the internet, trading our expertise for money, trying to build an audience, it requires a lot of vulnerability. It’s uncomfortable. What is the definition of being vulnerable? It’s to put yourself in harm’s way. Who wants to be in harm’s way? It doesn’t feel good. I believe that you wanting to pursue yet another health certification, health program, health course, health training, whatever you want to call it. It allows you to further delay the launch of your business or doing the uncomfortable things that you know you need to do in order to move forward. Think about that. It’s allowing you to procrastinate. It’s giving you an excuse to procrastinate because you’re saying, “When I do this, but if I finished this, then I’ll get that, then I’ll get that confidence, then I’ll be ready to launch my business, then I’ll be ready to build my audience.” It’s procrastination and it’s taking away what you should be doing which is working on your business.
I’m going to tell you something that I want you to take to heart. You have exactly what you need to help people. The fact that you have a single health coaching, wellness coaching, whatever you want to call it, certification, it’s all you need. Even if you don’t have a certification, maybe you know a lot about that because you spend a lot of time working in that industry. You have an experience, you know what you’re doing. When it comes to being an expert, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re leaps and bounds ahead of someone else. It means that you are a few steps ahead of them forging the path. It means you’re a little bit ahead of the person behind you and that’s all you need.
You might feel like an imposter. You might feel like you don’t know enough. You actually know significantly more than the average person. Maybe you don’t know as much as the most advanced functional medicine doctor out there, but you don’t need to. That’s okay. Over time, you will feel more confident and you will get more experience. Let’s talk about this lack of confidence thing. Do you believe that taking another course is going to give you confidence? You are going to be disappointed because it will not. When it comes to working with clients in the health and wellness industry, what gives you confidence is clinical experience. It’s getting out there and working with clients. No amount of course is going to give you that confidence. No course will substitute for real-world experience working with clients.
The experience will always trump education in this world. That might not be true for other types of industries out there. Maybe education is completely necessary and you can’t even move forward without it, but we are not living in that paradigm. We’re not working in that paradigm. We’re working in a different world. We’ve experienced trump education every time. The longer you delay getting the experience of working with clients, the longer you are going to delay feeling confident because that is the only thing that’s going to give you confidence in being a health coach. The first few times you work with clients, you’re not going to do it perfectly. It’s okay that you’re learning. It’s okay that you’re not the perfect coach. You are going to learn with each and every new client that you work with. This might blow your mind, but most people don’t give a crap about your education.
In my five years of health coaching, it was very rare that anybody asked about my education. Why did they want to work with me? Because they connected with me on my YouTube channel, over social media, and because I had a lot of great client testimonials. I proved that I could help people and I could get people the result. That is why people will choose to work with you. Think about it this way, if you had a health issue and you were trying to choose a practitioner to work with, would you go with the practitioner who has ten different certifications, all this education, but zero clinical experience? Or would you work with the practitioner who maybe has one certification, but they have ten years of working with clients and a crap ton of testimonials?
Do not do this. Do not use this imposter syndrome, this lack of confidence, this fear of putting yourself out there as a means to procrastinate doing what you need to do to move your business forward. It’s super important that you work on your business and you start educating yourself on business. I’m going to use myself as an example here, but I’m a business strategist. I’m a business mentor. I have zero education in business. I don’t have a business degree. I have a degree in Geography. I don’t even remember. That’s how little it means to me. I don’t have any traditional business training. Why am I an expert in online business? Because I built an online business myself. Are you going to choose to follow someone who has all this fancy university business education or are you going to follow me who has done what you want to do and have built a very successful and sustainable health coaching business?
Hopefully, you’re going to choose to follow me. If you prefer to go with the person with the education, that’s cool. I’m clearly not your person and that’s all good. The only way for you to feel confident is to get out there and work with clients. Do not invest. I know that you are passionate about health, you care about it, and you love learning about it. It tickles you and you get all turned on by it and it’s great, but it’s not what’s going to build your business. If you take on that other health certification or health coaching program, it’s going to take away from the time that you have to build your business.
It’s going to greatly reduce the amount of time that you have and your business is going to take longer to grow. You’re probably going to burn yourself out because all the things that you need to do for your business are not going away. They are still there. Your first year to two in business is the most work. It is a lot of work. This is when you hustle. This is when you have to get crap done because you’re building a new business and it is not easy. If you go and take that other health certification or training, you are going to have less time to work within your business, and either your business is going to go on hold, which I do not want for you, or you’re going to be working overtime. You’re going to be working all through the day. You’re going to be so exhausted.
I don’t believe in overworking ourselves because it makes us hate our business. It makes us resent our clients. That is not what we want. I did this too. I did my training in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition. When I finished, I didn’t have the confidence, I felt like I needed more. I ended up signing up for another nutrition certification program. I’m not going to mention it because I hated it. I think it sucks. There are other people who’ve done it, who loved it. It wasn’t for me. I’m not going to throw a course under the bus, but I hated it. It was expensive. It was $5,000 of American money, which in Canada is crazy expensive.
It didn’t give me more confidence. It made me mad that I invested in that, when I didn’t need to. Remember, you have exactly what you need to be successful in business. You either have your expertise or you have your single health coaching certification and that is all you need. You need to focus on learning business because you need as much education, if not more in business as you do in health. That’s not going to be in the form of some traditional business degree. That’s going to be hiring a mentor. It’s going to be taking a business course. It’s going to be working with me, someone who’s done what you want to do.
I understand that you feel super uncomfortable now. You are wearing that itchy Christmas sweater, but you can’t stop itching. You’re uncomfortable and you want to rip it off. I’m telling you to keep on that ugly ass sweater. You’re going to have to be uncomfortable for a while. You’re going to have to accept that you are going to work imperfectly with your clients until you dial in your system, but know that the confidence will come. If you put in the work, if you work with the clients and you don’t let your fear of discomfort hold you back, then you will be confident, I promise you that, but you have to put the work in. Investing in another course is not a good use of your money. Instead, take that money and invest in your business. Invest in a virtual assistant who can help you. Invest in a course that teaches you how to build an online business.
I hope you found this episode helpful. My Health Coach Accelerator Program was previously a private coaching program that I have turned into an online course/group program. It’s going to give you everything you need to build a successful business. It’s going to be super juicy and it’s going to be unlike any course out there on the market. We are going to include some coaching calls with that as well. You will be able to work with me and I will be able to help you build your business. If you are interested in working with me, in getting this system, it was incredibly successful when I ran it with private clients and I’ve packaged it up to an easy to follow step-by-step course.
We are going to add in some group coaching calls so that I can help you work through the content. You can go to KendraPerry.net/HCA.
