#45 – Three Pieces Of A Transformational Coaching Program

TWCK 45 | Transformational Coaching Program

If you’re someone that is selling single sessions and that’s it – it’s going to be an uphill battle for you unless you create a signature program that helps people transform their health. To be completely honest, what people are truly looking to pay the big bucks for is transformational coaching.

Why make it transformational?

#1 to truly change the health of your client

#2 to skyrocket your business from raving testimonials and referrals

#3 to complete your mission in making a real change on this crazy planet.

Most people think a program is just made up of information…

But, information does not lead to transformation.

If it did, we would all be transforming every time we spent time on Google. A program that is truly transformational goes deeper than this.

Tune into episode 45 of the Wealthy Coach Podcast to learn:

  • The danger of selling single sessions
  • The three pillars of a truly transformational program
  • How to build each of these into your signature program

Three Pieces Of A Transformational Coaching Program

I am so grateful that you are here. This is the show for health coaches, wellness practitioners or other types of online coaches who want to stop being broke AF and start being wealthy AF. That is what we do on show. I’m feeling pretty excited. It’s December 2020. I know a lot of people don’t like winter. I am one of those crazy Canadians who loves winter, loves the snow, loves being outside in the cold and the freshness of the air. There’s something about winter that is peaceful. It’s quiet because most people are inside. People aren’t out as much. There’s something quiet, peaceful and serene that I love about winter. Anyways, enough about my winter love.

What I want to talk to you now is about your signature coaching program. If you do not know what a signature program is, I have done episodes on this in the past, but you need one. That is the bottom line, you need one. If you are someone that is selling single sessions, general health coaching services, it’s going to be an uphill battle, to be honest. What people are looking to pay for, at least the big bucks for, is transformation. They want to transform. They want to get rid of the problem that they have. They want to get rid of the struggle. They want to ditch whatever symptom, the big issue that they have.

TWCK 45 | Transformational Coaching Program
Transformational Coaching Program: If information led to transformation, then everyone would be transforming all over the place. That’s not what’s happening. It’s how people utilize that information that can potentially lead to transformation.

We know, as health coaches, that a single session isn’t going to cut it. I wish we could transform someone in a one-hour session, but transformation comes from hard work and dedication. It doesn’t come from a one-off session. This is why you need a signature program. What I want you to do is package all your expertise and put everything that you know someone is going to need to get that transformation into your program. We know that when we get an upfront commitment from someone, when they commit to working with us for maybe 90 days, 4 months, 6 months, whatever that is, we have a great opportunity for them to transform. We have the time we need to guide them. We have the time we need to serve them. We have the time we need to coach them and lead them to where they want to go.

That’s why a signature program is important. This is something that I focus on inside Health Coach Accelerator, which is my Signature Live Experience for health coaches and online wellness practitioners who are looking to get their business to $5,000 a month consistently. The offer and what you are selling will make or break your business. If the offer you have isn’t good, if it doesn’t transform people, then that’s a problem because then you are going to talk out your ass when you say that it works. People aren’t going to give you the testimonials and referrals that you want to get. Hopefully, you are with me, and you are saying, “Yes, Kendra. I know I need to stop with the single sessions. I’m going to get rid of it.” I’m going to say yes because I’m not excited for you.

What I want to talk to you about now is the three components of a transformational coaching program. The first one is education. The second one is support. The third one is accountability. You do need all three of these in some way, shape or form in order to transform someone. A lot of people focus on education, but information does not equal transformation. The truth is, there is an abundance of information everywhere. Information is not our problem in 2020 going into 2021. There is so much information out there. There’s almost too much information. If information led to transformation, then everyone would be transforming all over the place. That’s not what’s happening. That’s not how it is. It’s how people utilize that information that can potentially lead to transformation.

The education piece of your program is still important. I’m not saying it’s not important. It needs to be there. It can’t be all that you do. You can’t spew education and information on people and expect them to get the result that they want. The truth is, you do need to teach people something new. They don’t know something. What they don’t know is preventing them from getting the success that they want, for the most part. Some people do know everything they need to be doing. They’re just not doing it. That’s where those other pieces and components are going to come into play. Education is important. You’ve got to teach your people something new. You need to determine, “What are the pieces of education that I’m going to teach inside my program that is going to help facilitate my client to get the result that they want?” That’s education.

Number two is support. This is why people are going to sign up for your one-on-one coaching program. The truth is, they can find everything they need on Google. All the information they need is out there. It may not be delivered in the step-by-step formula or process in which you deliver it, but it is out there. If they had the time and resources, they could Google search everything and find it. What they can’t get from Google is support. Google does not support us in the way that we need to be supported. This is the support component of your program. This might be coaching sessions, the way in which you coach people. You might meet with people every couple of weeks, maybe weekly, maybe once a month. It depends on you, your niche and how you like to support people, and how often you need to meet with people to get them the result. People need support.

TWCK 45 | Transformational Coaching Program
Transformational Coaching Program: If people aren’t held accountable, they go off track.

The support is where they have space to ask you questions. You can give recommendations. A lot of what we do inside the support component of our coaching program is hold space and allow people to be frustrated, confused, overwhelmed or upset with the experience they’re having. I find coaching and support are very powerful when we ask powerful questions. We lead people with questions and curiosity to help figure out what they need to do on their own. It’s always going to be more powerful when people come to their own conclusions.

As a coach, in the support component in-session, we can use questions. We can use curiosity to lead people to figure things out on their own, which is powerful and cool stuff. The other way in which you might provide support is out-of-session. It depends on how you like to work with people, and it depends on your client. Typically, people are going to want some access to you for support outside-of-session. This might be the ability to send you an email. It might be the ability to text or call you. Maybe you do something like office hours, where for two hours every week on Tuesdays, you are there available to answer questions only during that time frame.

One thing I do want to caution with is unlimited support. Back when I was a health coach, with all my programs, I offered unlimited email support. They could email me as many times as they wanted, ask me as many questions as they wanted, and I would answer them Monday through Friday. I probably had a 24-hour to 48-hour response time. The problem with this is some people barely used it, but there were those people who took advantage of it. I had one client emailing me sometimes 10, 20 times a day. I remember this woman very vividly. I’m thinking of her compassionately and I’m very empathetic. I do understand what it feels like when you’re suffering, you’re confused and you need support. Some people are emotional emailers or emotional texters. They don’t think or sit with things before they press send.

It will get taken advantage of, especially if you’re a new coach. If you are newer, you’re going to be charging a lower price point. What that means is you will attract clients who are a little bit more high-maintenance. My clients who pay the highest price point are typically very low-maintenance. I barely hear from them. They need a bit of clarification here and there. The ones that always paid the lowest price point were the ones that were the hardest to manage in terms of being high-maintenance. They took advantage of the unlimited support.

Should you offer unlimited support? It’s your business. You need to make that decision. I cannot make that decision for you. I do suggest that you have strong rules around how it can be utilized. You need to ask yourself, “Can they email you 100 times a day?” If you don’t put those boundaries forward and create those rules upfront, then you can get taken advantage of and get pretty annoyed with your inbox. It’s very easy to happen.

The final piece of a transformational coaching program is the accountability piece. People need to be held accountable. Typically, people want to be held accountable. It’s very easy in any health coaching program that someone is going to fall off track. That’s normal. You should expect it from your clients, generally, in the middle of the programs. It’s very normal. We all do it. Right now, I’m in a program and I’ve gone off track. There is an accountability piece in place, but not much of one. I’m going to have to figure out how to get back on track by myself. I would love for someone to be holding me accountable.

TWCK 45 | Transformational Coaching Program

How do you hold people accountable? You can create assignments. You can have journal entries. You can do check-in calls or check-in emails. You could have some homework aspect. You could have something that people have to send you every week or some assessment that they have to do. It’s important that if people don’t go through with the assignment, homework or whatever it is, you follow up with them and say, “No pressure. I understand life is busy, but I noticed you didn’t complete this. I want to make sure you’re on track. Is there any way in which I can support you?” If people aren’t held accountable, they go off track and people want accountability. I encourage you to think of, “How can I hold people accountable? What is that going to look like? Am I going to follow up? Am I going to expect assignments? How is that going to look?”

To summarize that, what you need if you want to transform anyone inside your program, you need the education. You need to teach them something new. You need to give them the new information. You need to support them through coaching, in-session and out-of-session. You need accountability. You need to hold them accountable because they will appreciate that. That will help them stay on track. When you transform people, this is where you get those raving testimonials. This is how you can build a referral-based practice or coaching business. People who get that transformation are going to be highly likely to shout your name from the rooftops and refer you to their friends and family.

I hope you found this episode helpful. I love talking about all things business and marketing. I love to help you grow your business and become wealthy AF.
