Why “No One Buys in December” Is a Giant Lie (and How to Make It Your Highest Cash Month Yet)

Why “No One Buys in December” Is a Giant Lie (and How to Make It Your Highest Cash Month Yet)

Let’s Bust the Big December Myth

Every year like clockwork, wellness coaches whisper the same tired lie:

“December is dead. Nobody buys coaching this month.”

It’s repeated in Facebook groups, tossed around on coaching calls, and quietly muttered into peppermint lattes by stressed-out practitioners wondering how they’ll pay off their AMEX bill in January.

Here’s the truth:

December isn’t dead.

Your business is just sleepwalking through the month because you decided it wasn’t worth showing up for.

Let’s be very clear:

  • People are spending money.

  • People are buying coaching.

  • People will invest in themselves before the year ends—if you give them a reason to.

In fact, December is the single highest spending month of the year in North America. Credit card companies report record swipe volumes. Retailers smash revenue goals. People are primed to buy.

So the real question isn’t “Are people buying?”

It’s: Why aren’t they buying from you?

The Real Reason Your Sales Tank in December

Let’s not sugarcoat it.

If you aren’t making money in December, it’s not because your audience is tapped out. It’s because one (or all) of these things are true:

1. You’re not selling consistently.

You got busy. You disappeared. You mailed in a few posts about “holiday self-care” and expected people to DM you.

But your ideal client was at a cookie exchange with her mother-in-law and didn’t even see your content. You went quiet when you should have turned up the volume.

2. You believed the myth.

You bought into the story that no one wants coaching this time of year, so you showed up half-hearted. You posted safe content. You avoided talking about your offer. You told yourself, “January will be better.”

Your mindset tanked your marketing.

3. You didn’t give people a reason to act.

Here’s the deal: People need a reason to buy now. Not “some day.” Not “when life slows down.” Now.

If your offer felt like it could wait, it did.

Why People Still Buy Coaching in December

Before we talk strategy, let’s just address this elephant-sized misconception.

Your clients’ problems don’t magically disappear during the holidays. In fact, the holidays often make them worse:

  • The woman with digestive issues? She’s facing six weeks of sugar, wine, and gluten. She’s already bloated, anxious, and Googling “low FODMAP holiday meals.”

  • The man with migraines? He dreads December because the lights, stress, noise, and weather changes are a perfect storm for head-splitting flare-ups.

  • The woman healing from narcissistic abuse? She’s facing another Christmas dinner with her gaslighting mother and silently spiraling.

Now is when your people need you most.

So why do coaches stop showing up?

Because they think no one wants help.

But your ideal clients aren’t thinking, “Should I invest in a program?” They’re thinking:

  • “How am I going to get through this month without unraveling?”

  • “What do I do when I gain 10 pounds over the holidays?”

  • “Will I ever feel good in my body again?”

That’s where you come in.

December Isn’t Just for Sales — It’s for Strategic Positioning

December isn’t about forcing people to start a 12-week gut health protocol on December 20 while they’re knee-deep in Bailey’s and shortbread.

It’s about giving them a way to commit to themselves NOW, so they don’t wake up in January with the same problems (only 10 pounds heavier and emotionally hungover).

You sell now. You start in January.

Here’s the offer:

  • “Secure your spot today.”

  • “Start your program in January.”

  • “Enjoy the holidays knowing your 2026 transformation is locked in.”

It’s elegant. It’s generous. It works.

You take payment now. They start fresh in the new year. You avoid a revenue dip. They avoid another year of procrastination. Everyone wins.

10 Ways to Drive Sales in December (Without Selling Your Soul)

Now that we’ve established people do buy coaching this month, let’s talk tactics.

1. Flip the Narrative with Belief-Disrupting Content

Create content that calls out the “nobody buys in December” myth head-on. Be polarizing. Take a stand. Show people why now is the perfect time to invest.

Example Post:
“If your migraines are worse in December, waiting until January to get help makes no sense. You don’t need to suffer through another holiday season. You need a plan now.”

This type of content attracts clients who are ready.

2. Offer a “Buy Now, Start Later” Promotion

This is your most powerful move. Create urgency with a December-only bonus, locked-in pricing, or limited spots.

Messaging ideas:

  • “Reserve your spot now and start in January.”

  • “December pricing ends on the 22nd.”

  • “Get the holiday survival guide when you enroll before Christmas Eve.”

3. Create a Holiday-Themed Offer (Strategically)

You don’t need a full program. You need relevance.

Design a simple workshop, guide, or mini-session that helps your audience navigate the holidays without backsliding.

Ideas based on niche:

  • Gut health: “Holiday Bloat Rescue Plan”

  • Hormones: “The Stress-Sugar Cycle & How to Break It”

  • Weight loss: “Navigate the Holidays Without Gaining 10 Pounds”

  • Mental health: “How to Avoid a Holiday Spiral (Without Avoiding Your Family)”

Sell it for a flat fee or use it as a fast-action bonus for your signature program.

4. Use Real Scarcity and Urgency

Scarcity means limited quantity. Urgency means limited time.

Examples:

  • “Only 3 spots available for January start.”

  • “Lock in current pricing before it increases Jan 1.”

  • “Enroll by Dec 15 to get the bonus planning call.”

Your job is to give people a compelling reason to act now, not later.

5. Showcase Social Proof from Past December Buyers

If someone joined your program in December and got amazing results by March, tell that story.

Example Story:

“Susan joined my program December 20, even though she was nervous about starting before the holidays. We delayed her support until January. By April, she’d lost 18 pounds, reduced her bloating by 80 percent, and felt like herself again.”

This shows what’s possible when people decide to go first.

6. Pre-Sell a January Cohort

Announce now that you’re opening a January round of your program. Make enrollment open for a limited time. Collect payment or deposits now. Delay the official start date.

This fills your calendar and gives people a timeline they can get behind.

7. Double Down on Email Marketing

Social media gets noisy in December. If you’re not using email — you’re leaving money on the table.

Send at least 2–3 emails per week. Mix value, belief-breaking, stories, and strong calls to action.

Not sure what to send?

  • One email busting the “nobody buys in December” myth

  • One email with a holiday-themed workshop offer

  • One email sharing a client case study who started in December

  • One email with a strong CTA and a deadline

8. Simplify Your Offer Messaging

People are busy. They don’t want long-winded sales pages or confusing program breakdowns.

Use clear, direct language that makes it obvious:

  • What you do

  • Who it’s for

  • What the result is

  • Why it matters now

Example: “My gut health program is designed for women with chronic bloating, IBS, and food sensitivities. In 12 weeks, you’ll go from digestive chaos to predictable, pain-free digestion — without giving up your favorite foods. Start in January. Secure your spot now.”

9. Stack the Value (Not the Complexity)

Avoid turning your December offer into a Franken-program of bonuses and 18 types of Voxer access. Instead, offer ONE meaningful value-add that makes December feel like the smart choice.

Examples:

  • Holiday meal planning session

  • Extra 1:1 call if they enroll before Dec 18

  • Invite to a private “January Jumpstart” planning workshop

Make it feel like they’re getting a head start.

10. Show Up Like the CEO You Say You Want to Be

December is not the time to hide behind Canva or “batch content” your way into invisibility.

You’re the face of your business. Show up in stories. Go live. Talk about what you’re selling. Talk about why now matters.

You don’t need a massive following. You need conviction.

What If You Actually Want a Chill December?

Cool. That’s valid.

If you’ve decided to take time off, own it. But don’t be surprised if January feels financially tight. And don’t confuse a business sabbatical with a sales strategy.

Because if you don’t want to lose momentum, there is another way.

You can sell simply, consistently, and in alignment with your energy — and you can do it while still taking time off.

That’s what we teach inside Health Coach Accelerator.

You Don’t Need More Posts. You Need a Plan.

Let’s be honest. Most wellness coaches are posting into the void. They’re creating content with zero strategy, hoping that someone — anyone — will magically click the link in their bio and sign up.

But that’s not how real online businesses work.

Inside HCA, we teach you how to:

  • Craft a niche and message that actually converts

  • Build a high-ticket signature program that gets results

  • Pre-sell your offer before it’s built

  • Attract leads without spending 40 hours a week on Reels

  • Convert those leads through DM, webinar, or phone — without feeling gross

  • Scale sustainably with systems, support, and clarity

You don’t need to post more.

You need a system that works — and the mindset to implement it in December, January, and beyond.

December Isn’t Dead. It’s Just Waiting for You to Wake Up.

This can be the month you decide you’re done playing small.

Done listening to broke coaches complain about the algorithm.

Done assuming your people don’t want help just because it’s December.

You can finish the year with momentum.

You can sign clients this week.

You can take payment now and start fresh in January — with actual revenue, actual clients, and actual results.

And if you need the roadmap to do it?

That’s what Health Coach Accelerator is here for.
